Sometimes, we just need to get away from our every day lives, just for a day or two, to refresh ourselves. It’s not a full on vacation but rather, an in-between mini vacation, and that is what staycations are perfect for. A little trip that takes you to a new environment and gives you just a little spice in life.
For this, my friend and I stayed at an AirBnB on the mountainside of Malibu beach – a territory that is different than the hub-bub of Los Angeles city filled with pavement. There, in Topanga Canyon, the scenery was green and echoed peace and quiet. There, after driving up narrow and windy roads, we nestled in what was essentially a makeshift adult treehouse with the touch of bohemianism.
It was perfect. The trip didn’t require much effort in terms of travel, as it only took about forty minutes to get there, but the environment was so different than what I see on a day-to-day that it felt as if I was transported away to someplace far away. Immediately, as we walked up the wooden stairs onto the wooden platform hanging off the side of the mountain, there, in the corner was an outdoor bathing area that overlooked nature and all its beauty.
And seriously, how amazing is that mural of a Native American chief on the side of the tub?!
One thing I love about a good mini vacation is time to relax with a good set of books. Our AirBnB host provided a few books, like this book of polaroids, but I brought my own just in case – “How to be an American Housewife” by Margaret Dilloway.
Strangely enough, I fell a little more in love with Los Angeles a little more after this Malibu staycation.
